Best Reasons to Hire Baby Boomers!

Add to this list, or just make it funnier (but with a grain of truth!) Would like to get this list polished enough to send to Hiring Managers.

1 Boomers’ eyesight may be changing, but they still know how to read a clock, so they show up. ON TIME.

2 Boomers are unlikely to take the week off because someone broke their heart

3 Boomers don't think of earbuds as required jewelry - to be worn at all times.

4 Boomers know how to spell customer service - better yet, how to deliver it.

5 Since they aren’t looking to climb the corporate ladder, Boomers make great mentors

6 Boomers don’t expect to be complemented for breathing. They expect praise for a good job and correction for a bad one.

7 You’ll get points in heaven if you protect an endangered species. After all, Boomerz are the last generation of workaholics.

8 They REALLY need the job: after all, Boomers can't move in with mom and dad (mom and dad are more likely to be moving in with them!)

9 Boomers have an attention span greater than the life of a flea

10 Boomers don’t have their cell phones super-glued to their texting fingers

11 Boomers may not be quite as physically agile as they were at 20, but they are really flexible – they will work different shifts, work from home, change their plans and work on contract or projects without complaining. They remember the old adage – work before pleasure.

12 Boomers are not going to leave just because they are overqualified. They are looking for balance in their lives and perfectly willing to sacrifice to get it.

Fashionistas

Many thanks to Linda Shannon for getting some of us "hot" ladies involved in the Dillards Fashion Show last week. It was more fun than any of us could have imagined, and we've formed a new happy hour group because of it. Sandy's makeover was fun and beautiful too! Hope to see sopme of Linda's pix on the website!!!

The first Idea Factory meeting I attended yesterday was very informative. I joined the Education group and will be working with Steve on Business Support. My professional areas of expertise are in Customer Care, Performance Management, Training Development & Delivery and Organizational Process.

I will post some comments with ideas of my own - ideas that I don't have time to pursue, but probably would if I had the time - so if any of them appeal to you, have at it! And post some of your own! Living Your Dreams In Today's Economy

Got some ideas about how to save money? Post them here and we will share them with those who attend our upcoming programs in Cave Creek, Scottsdale, Paradise Valley and Fountain Hills. Just because there are jitters in the economy, doesn't mean that you can't reach your goals - what it does mean is that you need to make some adjustments, get creative, and re-think how to get where you are going. Aging Parents Issues

Boomerz is putting together a program for those of you with aging parents. We would like to get a better idea of the issues you are grappling with including Financial issues such as Wills, estate planning, Taxes, Cost of long-term care, Social Security, Cost of medical care, Quality of life issues such as Sociability, Physical and mental wellness, Housing, Nursing homes, At-home care, Chemical restraints, End of life concerns, Caretaker issues Caring for the caretaker, Dealing with your siblings regarding your parents If you have any of these concerns or additional issues you would like addressed during these panel discussions, please post a comment.

New Programs

Scottsdale Boomerz' mission is to create and cultivate opportunities that allow baby boomers to maximize their contribution to society. This includes encouraging businesses to offer flexible work alternatives, non-profits to design meaningful pro-bono opportunities, and communities to fully capitalize on boomers' talents, energy, wisdom, and experience. Within this framework, What kind of programs and services would you like Boomerz to offer?
